General & Family Dentistry in Virginia Beach

Preventive Dental Care

Your family’s health is your top priority, so we feel it should be our top priority, too. Our patients are our neighbors and friends, and we take pride in getting to know each individual not only as a patient but as a person, too. It’s this trusting and comfortable relationship that opens dialogue, helping us understand your smile goals and assess your oral health needs.

Dental Hygiene & Checkups

Prevention, prevention, prevention! We simply cannot stress enough that prevention is the key to a healthy mouth. Virginia Beach family dentist Dr. Morgan and her team know that if we can prevent oral health problems before they begin, then you will be well on your way to enjoying a smile that lasts a lifetime.

For this reason, we recommend that most of our adult patients visit us every six months for a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, an oral cancer screening and professional dental hygiene. By stopping dental disease before it starts, we are able to save you from more costly and invasive treatments down the road. In addition, a clean mouth helps keep your heart and mind stay healthy, too. Recent research has shown that patients with gum disease are at a higher risk for serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes complications, and memory loss.

Dentistry for Kids

General and family dentistry includes children’s dentistry, of course! Our Virginia Beach office loves to see children and to care for their precious little teeth! It’s important that kids see us for a developmental checkup around age three. We make visits fun, yet informative, helping your little ones to learn proper home care techniques, including brushing and flossing.

Speaking of prevention, we also offer special preventive measures to help shield tiny smiles from cavities and keep your kids happy and healthy. Dental sealants are clear coatings that are painted on to the biting surfaces of children’s molars and quickly dried with a curing light. Once hardened, sealants last for years and block the bacteria and acids that cause cavities from settling in the deep grooves and pits in these teeth.

Fluoride treatments are another weapon in the fight against tooth decay. Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and can even remineralize a tooth if decay is just beginning. Mouth trays filled with fluoride gel are placed over your child’s teeth for just a minute, but the benefits can last for months.

Oral Cancer Screenings

An oral cancer screening is an essential part of any general dentistry visit. That’s because it’s not just tobacco-users who are at risk of developing oral cancer. A rising number of cases involve patients with none of the normal risk factors. What’s more, detecting oral cancer early is vital to a successful treatment. By regularly screening her patients for oral cancer, Virginia Beach general dentist Dr. Morgan improves the chances of finding cancer early. That, in turn, increases the likelihood of catching it when a full recovery is more likely. For more information on oral cancer, visit the Oral Cancer Foundation’s website.
